Handmade Parasite Wood Art Carving – Bird & Bee on Mushrooms
A more intricate piece in the parasite wood range, this carving brings together three woodland figures — a small hand-carved bird, a wooden bee, and a cluster of mushrooms — composed on a shared base of raw parasite wood. The combination reads like a moment lifted from a hedgerow or woodland edge: the bird perched and watchful, the bee approaching the mushrooms, the small ecology of pollinator and undergrowth held still in solid wood.
Each element is hand-carved and worked into the natural form of the base, with the smooth, finished surfaces of the bird, bee, and mushroom caps set against the rough, organic texture of the parasite wood beneath them.
The base is raw parasite wood — known as jempinis or jempinis batu in Indonesia — which comes from trees that have been overgrown by parasitic vines, and the resulting timber carries the distinctive twisting grain, hollowed sections, and organic textures of that growth process. Because each base is shaped by the wood's own history, no two pieces are alike. The composition you see in the photograph is the composition you receive.
This piece carries layered symbolism. Bees represent industriousness, community, and the patient work that holds ecosystems together; mushrooms in folk tradition belong to fairy rings and the hidden architecture of forest floors; small birds across most cultures stand for messengers, freedom, and song. Together, they form a small woodland in miniature — a study of the quieter, more attentive forms of life that share the world with us.
Particularly well-suited to gardeners, naturalists, foragers, beekeepers, cottagecore and woodland aesthetic enthusiasts, witches, fairy-aesthetic collectors, and anyone drawn to the small, careful creatures and growing things that quietly keep the world functioning. Works as a windowsill piece, shelf detail, desk ornament, or thoughtful gift.
Hand-carved by Indonesian artisans. Small variations in finish, grain, and base form are part of what you receive.
